Evergreen post-allotment checklist

What to do after a counselling seat allotment: a practical decision and reporting checklist

The result is only the start of the next decision. You need to confirm what was allotted, whether you want the seat, what action the portal requires, what money and documents are due, and how that action affects later rounds.

Published 27 August 2026. Evergreen guidance: verify the current official counselling rules before acting.

Evergreen counselling framework

Use the framework, then verify your official portal

Reporting terminology and deadlines vary across counselling authorities. Use this checklist to organise the decision, then follow the current official allotment letter, candidate login and reporting notice.

The decision question to answer first

If you keep this seat, are you willing and able to complete the fee, reporting and document requirements? If you seek an upgrade, do you understand what happens to this seat?

How to review your counselling decision

Verify the allotment details first

Check college, course or branch, quota, category, seat type and any fee category shown in the allotment. Similar college names or seat labels can have very different consequences.

Save the allotment result or letter before the portal changes to the next stage.

Understand the willingness or acceptance action

The system may ask you to accept, freeze, float, choose betterment, report, pay a seat-acceptance fee or take another authority-specific action.

Read the exact rule for your candidate status rather than copying what another student selected.

Prepare payment and documents together

Confirm the amount, payment channel, reporting venue, originals and photocopies required. Keep receipts and acknowledgements.

For expensive private seats, verify the full applicable fee before treating the allotment as acceptable.

Decide on later-round participation deliberately

If the rules allow an upgrade or later-round participation, list the higher options that are genuinely better than the current seat.

Do not risk a usable seat only because another round exists.

Before you submit or act

  • Save the allotment letter or result.
  • Verify college, course, quota and seat type.
  • Read the exact acceptance or willingness rule.
  • Check payment amount and deadline.
  • Prepare originals and copies for reporting.
  • Confirm reporting venue or online procedure.
  • Understand the effect on later-round eligibility.
  • Save payment and reporting acknowledgements.

Common mistakes to avoid

Celebrating the result and missing the next action

An allotment can still require acceptance, payment and reporting.

Assuming someone else's willingness option applies to you

Candidate status and round rules can differ.

Paying before checking the applicable fee category

The same college may have different seat costs.

Entering another round without understanding seat retention

Know exactly what happens to the current seat if you upgrade.

Use AdmiScan as a decision check, not as the counselling authority

AdmiScan can help you compare historical cutoff evidence, preference-list balance, seat context and available fee evidence. It does not control allotments and it does not replace the current official counselling notice. Use the official portal for the action; use AdmiScan to make the decision around that action more deliberate.

Frequently asked questions

Is a seat allotment the same as completed admission?

Not necessarily. Most processes still require the actions stated in the allotment and reporting instructions.

What should I save after allotment?

Keep the allotment letter, payment receipts, willingness acknowledgement and reporting proof.

Should I participate in the next round after getting a seat?

Only if the rules permit it and one or more higher preferences would genuinely improve your outcome.
