AdmiScan Data Moat #18

Kerala NEET 2025 MBBS category-wise cutoff volatility

Kerala's 2025 MBBS phase movement differed substantially by category code. This study keeps only category codes with at least 10 exact college-seat-group comparisons in both adjacent counselling transitions, then compares median and p90 movement.

Two interpretation rules matter

First, these movements use Kerala State Medical Rank, not NEET All India Rank.

Second, this page preserves CEE category codes exactly as they appear in the verified cutoff evidence. It does not infer or invent category label expansions that were not present in the evidence export.

Category movement was much wider in Phase 1→2

Strongest supported P1→P2 median

NR: 6,404.5

NR had 20 exact comparisons across 20 colleges. Its p90 absolute P1→P2 movement was 8,571.8 state-rank positions. PD was the only other supported category code with a P1→P2 median above 1,000, at 1,658.

P2→P3 stabilization

9 of 16 medians were zero

SC, LA, ST, VK, DV, BX, KN, KU and PD all had a median absolute Phase 2→3 movement of zero in the supported sample. That still does not imply every college-level cutoff for those codes was unchanged, which is why p90 remains visible.

Why the median is not enough

A category code can have a zero median while still showing a larger movement in a smaller number of colleges. For example, PD's supported P2→P3 median was zero, while its p90 was 113.4. The page therefore keeps p90 beside every median instead of presenting one number as the whole risk profile.

Methodology and evidence threshold

The underlying exact comparison key is college code + MBBS + seat group + category. A transition is calculated only when the same exact key appears in both adjacent phases. Missing combinations are not filled, interpolated or manufactured.

Category statistics were calculated separately for Phase 1→2 and Phase 2→3. The main table requires at least 10 exact comparisons in both transitions, which leaves 16 supported category codes.

The underlying evidence contained zero duplicate exact keys. Historical movement is descriptive evidence; it is not an admission probability, prediction or guarantee.

Frequently asked questions

Which Kerala MBBS category code moved the most from Phase 1 to Phase 2 in this supported sample?

NR had the largest supported median absolute Phase 1 to Phase 2 movement at 6,404.5 Kerala state-rank positions across 20 exact matches. Its p90 movement was 8,571.8.

Did category-wise Kerala MBBS cutoffs become more stable by Phase 3?

For many supported category codes, yes at the median. Nine of the 16 category codes with at least 10 exact comparisons in both transitions had a median absolute Phase 2 to Phase 3 movement of zero. Tail movement can still exist, so p90 is shown alongside the median.

Are the category codes expanded into category names on this page?

No. This research preserves the category codes exactly as they appear in the verified cutoff source. AdmiScan does not infer or invent a label expansion when the evidence export itself contains only the code.

Are these cutoff movements measured in NEET All India Rank?

No. They are measured in Kerala State Medical Rank positions. CEE Kerala's medical rank list is based on NEET (UG) 2025 rank but publishes a separate Kerala State Rank.

How does AdmiScan decide whether a category has enough evidence for this table?

The main table keeps only category codes with at least 10 exact college-MBBS-seat-group matches in both Phase 1 to Phase 2 and Phase 2 to Phase 3. Missing combinations are not manufactured.
