AdmiScan research · India counselling data

Admission cutoff movement by round in India

AdmiScan has analysed 1,15,038 published cutoff rows across KCET, COMEDK, JoSAA and Kerala NEET, producing 29,117 exact multi-round comparisons. The consistent lesson is not that later rounds are automatically easier. It is that meaningful movement does happen often enough that students should understand the round context before dropping ambitious choices too early.

Important: the raw rank numbers below are not cross-comparable. KCET, COMEDK, JoSAA and Kerala NEET use different ranking systems and seat-pool rules. Each dataset must be interpreted within its own counselling system.

Why cutoff movement matters for choice filling

An early-round closing rank is a snapshot, not a final statement of where every seat will close. Vacancies, upgrades, withdrawals and seat-pool-specific dynamics can change later rounds.

The safer use of historical movement is to keep a balanced list: retain ambitious options where the downside is low, add realistic choices with evidence around your rank, and protect yourself with safer choices. Do not treat historical movement as a prediction.

Methodology

Each underlying AdmiScan analysis compares the first and last observed round for exact combinations that preserve the counselling system's published dimensions. Those dimensions differ by system, so this index does not aggregate the raw rank movements into one universal score.

Across the four datasets, AdmiScan analysed 1,15,038 rows and 29,117 multi-round matched combinations. Follow the individual research pages for the precise comparison key, source coverage, round coverage and examples for each counselling system.
